Mindfulness meditation is a tool that can help you develop greater awareness and control over your thoughts and emotions, as well as cultivate a sense of calm and focus. The term mindfulness can cause some confusion but it is best described as a non-judgemental awareness of the present moment. The quality of mindfulness is trained through meditation which involves sitting and focusing the attention on an object, normally the breath or bodily sensations. As the mind wanders we continually bring our attention back to the object of meditation and in doing so we slowly loosen the hold that these distracting thoughts and feelings have on us.
